Celebrate Literacy Announces 2022 Excellence In Literacy Leadership Award Winners
CHELSEA, MA, September 2, 2022 – Metro Credit Union, Massachusetts’ largest state-chartered credit union, in partnership with Celebrate Literacy, today announced the recipients of the 2022 Excellence in Literacy Leadership Awards (ELLA). The awards recognize community organizations and individuals who create awareness and stress the importance of literacy and education.
This year’s winners are:
- The REAL Program, Inc. – Recipient of Celebrate Literacy fundraising proceeds
- Princess Guwor-Vonyeegar – Founder, The Kumba Foundation
- Cynthia McCleary – Interim Program Specialist, Connery Elementary School
In addition to the ELLA recipients, Adriana Paz is being recognized with the Community Impact Untold Stories Award. The award honors the advancements she has made in literacy leadership by amplifying stories within her community that have traditionally not been seen or heard.
“Each honoree is committed to excellence by elevating, improving, promoting, and increasing access to literacy and higher education opportunities for all members of the community,” said Diana Moreno, Celebrate Literacy Chairwoman and AVP Membership Development Manager at Metro Credit Union.
Awardees are chosen by a select group of community volunteers who come together to identify one local nonprofit organization and two community leaders to honor at Celebrate Literacy Day, an annual celebration founded to create awareness about literacy and education while highlighting the important work of grassroot nonprofit organizations and community leaders in Lynn.
“Our 11-year partnership with Celebrate Literacy has continued to flourish year after year,” said Robert Cashman, President & CEO of Metro Credit Union. “The collaboration we have with the organization perfectly illustrates Metro’s intention of ‘people helping people’ and we’re proud to play a role in promoting literacy and education in the community.”
The 2022 honorees were formally recognized at an annual event, held on Wednesday, August 31st at the Lynn Museum.
