Metro Credit Union Donates $25,000 to Chelsea Collaborative
Metro Credit Union, the largest state-chartered credit union in Massachusetts, announces a donation of $25,000 to the Chelsea Collaborative. This donation is one of the largest single gifts in Metro’s recent history and will provide support for a wide variety of community-focused programs led by the Chelsea Collaborative. Metro has demonstrated continued support for the Chelsea Collaborative over the past 10 years and is involved with the organization’s Summer Youth Employment Initiative, where teen participants are presented summer employment opportunities.
The Chelsea Collaborative’s mission is to empower residents to enhance the social and economic health of the community and its people, and to hold institutional decision makers accountable to the community. The Collaborative is the only Latino-led organization in Chelsea, and works to implement a variety of community initiatives developed and led by residents to address the persistent issues of inequity, which negatively impact the well-being of Chelsea residents, particularly those most vulnerable among us such as children, immigrants, and refugees. The organization leads nine community-focused programs with a variety of objectives, ranging from ending foreclosures and predatory lending in the community to teaching English as a second language to local residents.
“The funds given today represent a multi-year commitment to support the Chelsea Collaborative and its critical programs,” says Robert Cashman, President and CEO of Metro Credit Union. “Metro supports critical programming in the communities we serve. By continuing to fund programs led by the Chelsea Collaborative, we are strengthening our commitment to improving the lives of those in our community.”
“The Chelsea Collaborative is thankful for Metro’s continued commitment and support,” says Gladys Vega, Executive Director of The Chelsea Collaborative. “The Credit Union continues to demonstrate their rooted support for the betterment of our city and in our community as a whole. We are grateful that Metro continues to believe in our work as we continue to help the voiceless and the most vulnerable in our low income community.”
