Introducing New Metro Checking Account and Rewards Program
CHELSEA, MA – July 9, 2024 – Metro Credit Union, the largest state-chartered credit union in Massachusetts, today announced that it has launched Metro Checking, an innovative new checking account for members that offers flexible benefits and eliminates unnecessary fees. In tandem with the new checking account, Metro has also launched a first-of-its-kind Metro Rewards Program for members to earn more for their money through a redeemable points system for everyday banking transactions.
“Through extensive analysis and planning, the decision to introduce the new Metro Checking account and Metro Rewards Program was made with careful consideration of the significant benefits and value we want to offer our members,” said Robert Cashman, President and CEO of Metro Credit Union. “Our approach is to incentivize members to take actions through their regular banking activities to earn rewards that benefit them and help them grow their funds rather than penalize them with fees on their accounts.”
The elimination of fees such as NSF/insufficient funds, overdraft transfers, returned deposits, inactivity, and monthly maintenance fees makes Metro Checking accessible to more people for their banking needs.
Metro Checking features include:
- No minimum balance or monthly fee
- Unlimited ATM fee refunds*
- 3.00% APY on Membership Savings account*
- Eligibility to earn and redeem Metro Rewards
- Fewer fees than traditional checking accounts
- Early Pay, Save Your Change, and Bill Pay
- Deposits fully insured
- Interest earned on checking balance over $10,000
*To take full advantage of all account features, Metro Checking members must meet at least three qualified activity requirements each month: opt in for eCommunications, direct deposit to the account, debit card purchases, maintaining an active Metro loan or credit card, or maintaining a balance in the account. Learn more about specific requirements for Metro Checking here.
In addition, Metro’s new online switch kit allows members to easily re-direct their payroll direct deposit from their employer’s portal and their subscription-based card purchases to their Metro account.
Metro Rewards Program
All Metro members are eligible to enroll in the Metro Rewards Program to earn and redeem points for cash. Points are awarded through Metro iBanking for certain banking transactions and activities such as bill pay, direct deposit, debit card transactions, and automatic payments on Metro loans.
Reward points are awarded to members at times specific to a banking activity — debit transactions are earned the first business day after the transaction is processed while direct deposit and bill payment points are awarded on the first business day of every month for the previous month’s activity. Enrollment in Express Pay to automatically pay a Metro loan is rewarded on a weekly basis, as a one-time award per loan account. More information on Metro Rewards is available here.
