International Credit Union Day – Celebrating 75 Years

Today is International Credit Union (ICU) Day – an opportunity for the entire credit union industry to celebrate our collective accomplishments, reflect on the rich history of the credit union movement, and show thanks to the members who have entrusted us in guiding them through their own personal financial journeys. Today is the 75th anniversary of the first ICU Day, which is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October since 1948.
Credit Unions were built on the principle of “people helping people.” We’ve seen that philosophy in action for more than 100 years, with credit unions providing access to affordable financial products and striving to meet the needs of underserved communities. Metro is honored to be a part of this proud tradition.
At Metro, we have been celebrating ICU Day all week long with exciting events, seminars, and CD specials for our members (14 Month CD at 5.55% APY for personal and business accounts; 14 Month IRA CD at 5.55% APY) plus two opportunities to win $1,000! We appreciate and celebrate our members all year but every October we honor them during a dedicated Member Appreciation Week at all of our branches. If you haven’t done so already, please stop by one of our branches to say hello, enter the raffle, and enjoy refreshments with your local branch staff. We’d all love to see you.
I’d also enjoy hearing about your own credit union stories – if Metro has made a difference in your own personal financial journey, we’d love to hear about it. Tag us on social media with the hashtag #ICUDay!
I am proud of the impact we’ve made both as an individual credit union and as a part of the greater credit union network and look forward to what’s in store for the final months of 2023 and into the new year.
