Metro Credit Union Sees Continued Growth Via Merger With Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union
CHELSEA, MA, November 3, 2021 – Metro Credit Union, Massachusetts’ largest state-chartered credit union, today announced it has merged with the Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union, founded in Gloucester, Mass. in 1938. Metro Credit Union, which holds $2.4 billion in assets, will absorb GFDCU’s 99 members, some of whom are existing Metro members, and $720,000 worth of assets in savings and loan accounts. The new members will have access to an expanded line of products and services and Metro’s 14 branch locations.
“I’m thrilled to welcome members of the Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union to the Metro family,” said Robert Cashman, CEO and President of Metro Credit Union. “I encourage both existing members of GFDCU and others who are or were previously employed by the city of Gloucester to take advantage of the many opportunities Metro has to offer our members.”
When considering a merger, GFDCU turned to Metro due to its strong reputation, digital and technological advancement, and continued commitment to its 200,000 members. With continued growth in membership, staff, and branch locations, Metro Credit Union looks forward to bringing their growing lineup of products and services to members of the Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union.
