Q: What is happening?
As of October 31, 2021, Metro and Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union will merge. This means that GFDCU members will become members of Metro Credit Union – the largest state-chartered credit union with over 200,000 members!
Being a Metro member introduces you to many new products and services. From convenient online and mobile app banking platforms to new ways to save plus retirement and insurance services.
Q. Will my account number change?
Yes, and to help protect you from identity theft and potential fraud, each of your Metro accounts will have its own account number. You can find your new account number on your November statement(s).
Q. Will my savings account stay a savings account?
Yes, but the name will change. Your GFDCU Savings Account will be called your Membership Savings Account.
Q: Will there be an interruption in my direct deposits?
Your direct deposits will continue to be posted to your account(s) as you currently direct them. Keep in mind that with Early Pay your electronic paycheck deposit is available to you up to two business days earlier. You are automatically enrolled in Metro Early Pay when your paycheck is direct deposited into a Metro account.
Q: Will any account fees change?
You can review the Deposit Fee Schedule that you received in the mail or go to MetroCU.org and click on Disclosures and Fees.
Q: Will my interest rate change?
Your GFDCU savings account rate will remain at 0.65% APY through December 31, 2022. At that time, your savings account rate will revert to Metro’s Membership Savings Account rate. You can find our current rates for our complete line of deposit products at MetroCU.org.
Q: Will the deposit or loan account terms change?
While your GFDCU savings rate will remain as noted above Metro Account Agreement terms will be applicable to your accounts as of October 31, 2021. Please note for members with existing loans, starting in November, credit reporting will commence with status as of October month end. This will help you in continuing to build credit.
Q: Will my automatic transfer payments stay the same
Yes. Your payments will continue as they are currently scheduled.
Q: Will my account statement date change?
No. Account statement dates for deposit accounts will remain as they are.
Q: When will I receive a Metro account statement?
GFDCU members will receive their final Gloucester Fire Department Credit Union account statements in early November for transactions that occurred through the month of October The first Metro Credit Union account statement will be distributed in early December, containing transaction activity for the month of November Metro members can enroll in iBanking and opt to receive statements electronically.

Q: How do I enroll in iBanking?
Simply go to MetroCU.org/GFDCU-GetStarted and complete the secure form. Once we receive it, we will update your profile which provides access to all the online services available to Metro members. Please note that access to iBanking will not be available until November 1, 2021.
Q: If I don’t sign up for Metro iBanking, are there new programs and services for me?
For sure!! Metro has lots of offerings designed to help you.
- CardValet lets you manage your debit card, including the ability to turn access on or off from your smartphone.
- Early Pay offers faster ACH processing that allows you to receive and see your electronic paycheck up to two business days earlier than before.
- Save Your Change is a convenient way to help you save by connecting your debit card to a Metro savings account, and “rounding up” purchases with the change deposited into the savings account.
- Envelope-free ATMs make it easy to make a deposit.
Q: What are eStatements?
eStatements are account statements that are posted to iBanking. You receive a notification via email which lets you know of their availability. It’s a convenient and secure way to keep track of your account(s). Enrolling is easy! Simply log in to Metro iBanking and click on the eStatement link within the Self-Service Center.
Q: Where can I access eStatements?
You access eStatements through Metro iBanking; simply log in to Metro iBanking and click on the eStatement link in the Self-Service Center. You can also view your eStatements through the Metro Mobile Banking App!
Q: I have multiple accounts at Metro; can I get some of my statements in paper format and others electronically?
Unfortunately, no. If you have more than one account you are unable to receive one in paper format and others electronically.
eStatements are an easy, secure, and free service that helps you manage and monitor your account activity. Enrolling in eStatements is easy; log in to your Metro iBanking account and click on eStatements in the Self-Service Center. When you enroll, you must elect to receive all statements in electronic format.
Q: How debit I get a debit card from Metro?
It’s easy. Simply go to MetroCU.org/GFDCU-GetStarted and complete the secure form. Make sure you check the box next to “Yes! I want a Metro Debit Card.” Once we receive your completed form we will order the card for you. Your Metro Debit Card is a great way to access and use your funds; at an ATM, in-person shopping and online purchases. Please keep in mind, as you open additional Metro deposit accounts, they can be added to your Metro debit card.
*Please note cards will be delivered on or after November 1, 2021. Debit cards won’t be available to use until after this date.
Q: How do I access and use Metro’s mobile banking app?
It’s easy! Simply download the latest version of Metro’s mobile banking app by visiting the Google PlayStore (Android) or the Apple App Store (iPhone). Search for Metro Credit Union.
Q: Is Telephone Banking an option?
Yes, with Telephone Banking you will be able to access all related accounts with one log-in. Call 877.MY.METRO (696.3876), Option 2. When you call in you will be prompted for your complete social security number. Please note that for your initial call to Telephone Banking your PIN will be the last four digits of your SSN.
Q: What is my "PIN" number for telephone banking?
When using our telephone system, please be aware that you will be asked to enter your social security number. Please also note, that your initial PIN is the last 4 digits of your social security number. You will be asked to change your PIN afterward.
Q: Can I pay my loan electronically?
All GFDCU members will be set up with automatic payments as currently designated, so no additional action is required. In the future, Metro offers two options to pay your loan online. Metro Pay is a quick and secure way to make one-time payments on a Metro loan, using funds from another financial institution. Express Pay lets you set up recurring payments from your Metro account or another financial institution. Learn more here.
If you choose one of our automated payment methods, the auto-pay should be scheduled and received in line with your billing frequency, as described above, to ensure timely uninterrupted payments.
