Metro Donates Excess Office Furniture and Equipment to Area Community Organizations

CHELSEA, Mass. (January 04, 2016) –
Metro Credit Union, the Commonwealth's largest state-chartered credit union, donated office furniture to area community organizations, concluding a half-year endeavor to reinvest excess office furniture and equipment back into the community.

Over the past six months, Metro Credit Union has donated thousands of dollars worth of desks, bookcases, chairs and file cabinets to area charitable organizations including: Cathedral High School, Meriting Attention Youth Basketball Club, Casa Myrna, East Boston Social Center, North Suffolk Mental Health, The East Boston Chamber of Commerce, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, and AME Peoples Church.

"It is nice to be able to repurpose valuable furniture to the benefit of area businesses, their communities as well as the environment" said Saritin Rizzuto, Assistant Vice President of Community Relations & Business Development.

With millions of tons of office furniture and equipment sent to landfills annually, the in-kind donation not only helps divert items from going to a dumpsite, but also helps off-set future CO2 emissions. Additionally, the donation provides a valuable supplement to financial support, which helps area community organizations free up funds for services benefiting Boston and Greater Boston residents.
“Providing staff with quality places to do their work, so they can remain focused on clients is essential. We thank Metro Credit Union for their donation of office furniture, allowing us to continue to provide quality behavioral health and recovery needs for the community,” said Jackie Moore, CEO of North Suffolk Mental Health.
