Sharon Birchall Recognized as Credit Union Hero by Banker & Tradesman

Chelsea, MA (September 19, 2014) – Metro Credit Union, the Commonwealth’s largest state-chartered credit union, announced today that Sharon Birchall, Business Development Officer,  has been named to a list of “Credit Union Heroes” by Banker & Tradesman, an important and influential banking trade magazine.

Birchall, a lifelong Lawrence resident, continually works to improve the lives of residents and businesses in the Lawrence community through financial education and programming. Her goal is to assist individuals in developing spending and savings plans to achieve their financial goals. She is the Past President and current Board Member of the Lawrence Exchange Club, and sits on several Boards including GLCAC (Greater Lawrence Community Action Council), YMCA, and Lawrence Airport Commission in addition to being a member of various neighborhood groups.

In establishing the “Credit Union Heroes” award, Banker & Tradesman recognized that credit union professionals are often recognized for generating a large amount of loans, or opening a large volume of new accounts.  So it sought to highlight “those who think beyond the bottom line, and work to benefit the community in which the credit union serves.”  Through an annual nominating process, the magazine seeks help from the industry to identify worthy recipients who work tirelessly to not only deliver superior customer service, but also serve the community.

Charlene Bauer, Senior Vice President, Business Development and Community Relations, describes Sharon as “an in demand community leader that always goes the extra mile for Metro’s members.” Bauer continues, “Sharon personifies the ‘People Helping People’ mentality and we are thrilled that she is being recognized for her volunteerism and community relationships by Banker & Tradesman. She is an example of integrity, leadership and commitment to her community, employer and peers.”
