Metro Leads Fundraising Efforts for Operation Bootstrap's 2nd Annual Event

Chelsea, MA (September 17, 2014) – Metro Credit Union, the Commonwealth’s largest state-chartered credit union, recently led fundraising efforts for Operation Bootstrap’s 2nd Annual Celebrate Literacy Day Gala. The event, held on the VNA Roof Top at 200 Market Street in Lynn on September 16th, was in support of Operation Bootstrap and The Lynn Literacy Campaign.

Saritin Rizzuto, AVP of Community Relations and Business Development and Diana Moreno, Branch Manager, chaired fundraising and logistical activities for the event which drew more than 150 people and raised nearly $10,000 through donations and sponsorships.

At the event, Excellence in Literacy Leadership awards were presented to Diane Patrick, First Lady of Massachusetts, and Erin Van Otterloo, Administrator of the Van Otterloo Family Foundation. This distinguished recognition is given on an annual basis to deserving women that have gone above and beyond to improve Literacy.

“This is an annual highlight to the ongoing efforts to improve family literacy resources and programs in the City of Lynn and surrounding area. I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports these efforts,” Rizzuto commented.

The Lynn Literacy Campaign was established in 2013 to respond to the critical need for more adult and family literacy resources. Including Metro Credit Union, it brings together a large number of agencies and organizations to address the issue of literacy through offering workshops, reading aloud initiatives, English conversation classes, book clubs promotions, library card access and many other efforts. All to support and encourage families to help Lynn become a City of Readers.
