Metro Donates Over $6,000 in Scholarships

CHELSEA, Mass. (July 23, 2014) - Metro Credit Union awarded 10 Peabody and Chelsea High School students over $6000 in scholarship money. The Financial Literacy Scholarship is designed to honor students who demonstrated exemplary skills in finance and business during their internship at the Chelsea High School and Peabody Veterans Memorial High School branches of Metro Credit Union. Students who intern at the Metro branch learn more about the world of finance and gain hands on experience with banking and customer service.

“We are pleased to award these exceptional students with scholarships that will further their education and careers,” said Robert Cashman, the credit union’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Metro is committed to our local communities through financial literacy programs and these students as they venture off into college.”

At this year’s Massachusetts Student Banking conference, held April 1st at the Boston Federal Reserve Bank, Peabody High students had a near-sweep in the competitive part of the conference, called the “Bankers’ Bowl.”  The team took home 1st place in “Product Development,” 1st place in “Marketing,” and 3rd place in “Trivia.” A student from the Peabody High team was one of three students that won the conference’s essay contest as well.
