Metro Donates 280 Backpacks for Students in Local Communities

CHELSEA, Mass. (September 8, 2014) - Metro Credit Union has donated 280 backpacks in support of schools and organizations in the Peabody, Lynn, Lawrence, Chelsea and Malden communities. Backpacks filled with school supplies were donated at the beginning of September to make sure they get in the hands of students who are preparing for a successful school year.

Robert Cashman, President and CEO of Metro Credit Union commented, “Every year our backpack drive continues to grow. It has become a tradition that Metro and our employees care about and get behind. We are committed to making an impact in the communities we serve. This donation will help take the financial burden off of families by providing some of the basic needs for a child’s education.”

Metro employees donated money to the backpack drive during dress down days throughout the summer. "This was a real team effort with our employees. Not only did they donate their time to this cause, but generously gave over $1,100 in monetary contributions, which Metro matches in kind," said Charlene Bauer, SVP of Community & Business Development.

In August, Metro Credit Union invited their employees to fill backpacks with necessary school supplies for elementary-aged children. From there, they are being distributed to the local communities, schools and charities that benefit from this initiative.
