Metro Donates to Lawrence Through Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive

CHELSEA, Mass. (November 21, 2013) – Metro Credit Union, the Commonwealth’s largest state-chartered credit union, in partnership with the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, donated dozens of Thanksgiving Day baskets to Lawrence families in need.

Annually Metro Credit Union selects a charitable organization that identifies families in need of Thanksgiving Day food and supplies. Metro Credit Union employees assembled, decorated and delivered the baskets to the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council. In years past, Metro has donated to the Chelsea and Lynn communities.

"The Thanksgiving Basket drive is one of the best events of the year. Our employees really enjoy helping their communities and donating to people in need, which reflects in the baskets they create. Metro is committed to its communities and this is just one of the ways we like to help people during the holiday season." said Charlene Bauer, SVP of Community & Business Development.

"For many of these families, the donations mean they don’t have to choose between paying a utility bill and purchasing food to eat on the holiday. With the help of generous donors like Metro, our agency’s neediest families can share in the celebration of Thanksgiving,” said Evelyn Friedman, Executive Director, of the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc.

Each department and branch contributed items to create dozens of baskets filled with traditional Thanksgiving staples like stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce, and desserts, as well as a gift certificate for a turkey from Metro. To add competition and fun to the Thanksgiving Basket drive, Metro holds a decorating contest and picks a winner based on the judges’ favorite basket.
