Metro CU Donates to Lawrence Community Works Program

Chelsea, Mass. (March 1, 2012) – Metro Credit Union, which is poised  to become the Commonwealth's largest state-chartered credit union, today  presented a check for $3,300 to Lawrence Community Works to support programming  in its Home Ownership Center for first time home buyers.

“Metro Credit Union has always been, and will always  be committed to helping improve the financial lives of the people who live and  work in the communities we serve,” said Robert M. Cashman, Metro CU’s president  and chief executive officer.  “We see our support of Lawrence Community Works as  an investment in the City of Lawrence that should help make the dream of home  ownership a little easier to realize for families that participate in the  programs.”

Lawrence Community Works’ Home Ownership Center was  created to help members of the Lawrence community become knowledgeable and  stable long-term homeowners through financial literacy and mortgage readiness  education, as well as consumer protection training to identify and avoid  predatory lending practices.  Programs are tailored to meet the needs of  individual participants.

“Purchasing a home is a worthy goal, but it can also  be a confusing and overwhelming task to undertake,” said Jessica Andors,  co-executive director of Lawrence Community Works. “The support of Metro Credit  Union is invaluable as it allows us to fulfill our mission of building strong  neighborhoods, one homeowner at a time.”

Upon completion of a program, graduates may also tap  into Lawrence Community Works extensive network of reputable attorneys, real  estate brokers, and other professionals, who are available to serve as advisors  on individual decisions.
