Metro Credit Union Sponsors Essay Contest

Credit Union Supports Literacy in Youth

Chelsea, MA – November 17, 2009 – In a continued effort to promote literacy in youth, Metro Credit Union is pleased to be participating in the 2010 Student Essay contest for seventh and eighth students sponsored by the Massachusetts Credit Union League's Financial Literacy Committee.

Metro Credit Union will be accepting entries from middle school students until December 18, 2009.  Students will be competing for the top prize of a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, and in addition, seven winners will be chosen to receive a $250 U.S. Savings Bond and several Honorable Mentions will be awarded $50 U.S. Savings Bonds.

Students are asked to write an essay that answers the following question: "Credit Unions are run by volunteers who work tirelessly on behalf of their communities. If you had unlimited time and money what aspect of community service would you volunteer for and why?"

From the entries received, Metro Credit Union will select two essays and submit them to the statewide competition. All students who submit an essay will earn a certificate of participation from the Massachusetts Credit Union League. The League will then choose the winners who will receive their awards at a ceremony at the State House in the spring.
