Player congratulates Four Downs for Finance contest winner


Chelsea, MA – February 17, 2010 – New England offensive lineman Dan Koppen visited Everett High School to congratulate Four Downs for Finance Grand Prize winner Marvin Sosa Mendez at a school assembly held Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Metro Credit Union teamed up with the Office of State Treasurer Timothy Cahill to bring the contest to students throughout the state in grades   K-12.

Koppen, along with State Treasurer Timothy Cahill and Metro Credit Union President and CEO Robert M. Cashman, addressed the students, commending Marvin for his winning essay and urging students to develop good savings habits.

The Four Downs for Finance essay contest asked entrants to answer the question: Why is saving important? Marvin's winning essay described the ways that he saves money on a daily basis, and stated, “Saving money is important because it teaches us a lesson. It teaches us to save for what we need, not necessarily for what we want”.

Runners up Emily Rivard of Venerini Academy in Worcester and Kylie Bringola of Killam Elementary in Reading received $250 SMART savings accounts from Metro Credit Union. In addition to having Dan Koppen visit his school, Marvin Sosa Mendez received a $500 SMART savings account from Metro Credit Union.
