Program aims to teach financial literacy to at-risk students

Chelsea, MA – November 8, 2011 – Metro Credit Union will be conducting ongoing financial literacy seminars for students of Lynn Public School’s CITY Academy program. CITY Academy is an alternative program for middle school students with acute emotional disabilities. The goal of the program is to equip the students with the necessary life skills to ensure that they are ready for independent living and employment once they have completed their education.

The financial literacy seminars, taking place at Metro’s Lynn Branch on a monthly basis, will provide the students with a basic knowledge of personal finance, including budgeting, saving for the future, and how to manage a checking account. Metro employees will be supplying the participating students with the advice and guidance needed to develop healthy money habits and be financially independent when they are ready to enter college or the workforce. “CITY Academy stands for Connecting and Inspiring Today’s Youth.  Financial literacy training through Metro Credit Union will help the students connect to their community and inspire them to be educated and independent young adults,” stated Danielle Buckley, Clinical Director of CITY Academy.

This current program is just another part of the ongoing commitment Metro Credit Union has made to provide financial education to students and members of the community. Whether its simple tips to help members better manage their finances, or seminars and programs designed to help members navigate more complicated financial situations, Metro ensures that the people they serve have the right advice, guidance and resources to make smart financial decisions.
